How Come?

Questions that Come Up, if Working at Home

With new schedules, new considerations — come new perspectives — some serious, some trivial. After several weeks of serious focus, and fully aware that there are many on the front lines of service keeping us all safe, on a slow Saturday morning (I think it is Saturday, at least I know it is some day of the week) lots of questions entered my mind.

Personal Hygiene Questions

· How will people look in a few weeks, without professional haircuts?

· Is deodorant needed for zoom meetings?

TV Questions

· Do laugh tracks work? Some late night hosts have been doing their shows from home, and I am wondering if they are less funny, or am I missing the laugh track?

· For our respective Netflix algorithms, if I got ten profiles for people in my personal life network, could I match the person to the Netflix profile of recent viewing?

Dog Questions

· What did he do all day when I was not here? (Probably the same thing.)

· When sleeping, then twitching and barking, what the hell is happening in that dog dream?

Computer Questions

· Are software updates for various apps just a trick to look at where we have been? Really, what the heck are they doing in the background?

· For the online games, at jacktv.com, are they fairly scored? One son in law keeps winning.

Blowers and Yard Work Questions

· Who invented those damn things and where do they live? Does that inventor use one?

· What happened to the joy of sweeping?

Crows vs. Blue Jays Questions

· Who are more annoying, crows or blue jays?

· How come crows don’t have a sports team named after them? Guess a band name is not bad.

Slippers, Shoes and Specialized Equipment Questions

· Can you write off slippers as a business expense when you work from home?

· And how many slippers does the average person have in their lifetime?

Spotify Questions

· If you listen to the Radio option for an artist, do the songs repeat? If so, what is the interval for a song to repeat?

· Who has the biggest database (# of records) in the world? Is it Spotify, or some authoritarian profile of a citizenry?

Quora

· I like it. Am I crazy?

· What the hell is their business model?

Rich People and Revolutions?

· I feel privileged to be able to work at home, hopefully still work post COVID, but what are rich folks doing? Are they using their private jets? What are they eating? Which house did they decide to stay in?

· In my mind, a related question — will the revolution be televised?

Guess that last question is the fundamental thing to think about during this COVID 19 moment. What will be different post this pandemic, and what can we leverage — make different and better, out of the pain, confusion, and old selfishness, animosities. And then, perhaps, I will just have to accept that the dog dream question will forever remain a mystery.
